Childhood Memory & Travel Diary
I had many memories of events from my daughter’s and son’s childhoods, but none of these had been recorded in writing. Eventually, I began to document these memories on the computer but found that this format lacked the personal touch and connection I wanted to convey. I felt that handwritten notes would create a more intimate and lasting attachment for the future. In 2000, I began creating a journal to capture all the exciting, funny, happy, and sad moments in my children’s lives. This journal could also encourage parents to regularly photograph their children, from birth through the teenage years, and to note their thoughts and hopes before their child’s birth. A separate journal was designed to log flight details, as well as train, boat, and car journeys. However, as people became more accustomed to digitisation, their busy lifestyles left little time for handwritten records, and the project was ultimately abandoned at an advanced stage of development.
