Retractable ID Card Holder
In the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York in 2001, I developed a highly functional and compact retractable ID card holder. The unique design allowed for dual functionality: it could also be used as a promotional item by keeping the reel holder exposed, enabling a company logo or name to be attached to the rotating reel head. As the ID card lanyard was extended or retracted, the logo would rotate along with the exposed reel head, making it an ideal promotional product. Additionally, the ID tag was designed to secure the photographic side of the ID card outward for easier identification. A major U.S. ID card holder manufacturer showed interest in the product and requested samples but later informed me that it was not suitable for their range. However, a few months later, they began manufacturing an identical design. Despite considerable investment in moulds and other preparations, competing against a major, established manufacturer was not feasible, and production was ultimately abandoned.
